- After Mary Catharina Schulte died in 1850, six Holthöfer children immigrated to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan during the period 1853 to 1867. The earliest record of any Holthoefer in Detroit is dated 1853, when Joseph Holthoefer was a witness to a friend’s marriage. Casper J. Holthoefer claimed the year of immigration was 1853. Marianna Holthoefer was a witness to her sister’s marriage in 1858 in Detroit. Maria Elisabeth Holthoefer married in Helden (near Serkenrode) in 1864; she and her husband are found living in Detroit, 1867.
