Notes for Frank Stanley (Spouse 1)
Memories from son, Adelore Wolff (2008):
Frank – “I was five. 1929, the “Great Depression” circumstances were not good for the Wolff family. Dad lost everything he had worked for. Like many others, he enjoyed a measure of success prior to 1929.
Prior to 1929, he purchased land with loans from banks. He constructed houses on speculation. Why not? Times were good and people needed homes. Then came the big bust. He couldn’t repay the bank loans. He lost everything but his firm desire to maintain his family to the best of his ability.
And he did plumbing with hard work and small pay. Sometimes down hearted but certain things would soon be better. With much relief, he was offered a job opportunity with the City of Detroit, just prior to WWII. Working in maintenance for years, he finally made supervisor of his department and retired in 1965.
So we all know this man as good, hard working and his struggle to put food on the table for Anna and his 3 children. And who now realize what he did for us.”
Anna - “What son doesn’t rememberhis mother fondly? Mom was a specia, kind and helping
person. No complaints. Her dear friend (Virgina) and her family of 6 children, needed help: Mom would go there on a regular basisand lend a helping hand. She would always remember to treat the kids with cake & doughnuts. Bearing goodies, she was always welcome.
To help with family finances, Mom teamed with another great friend (Mar), to cook and bake for Wedding parties. Starting on Friday and finishing on Saturday, they were tirelessly preparing wounderful meals for the guests.Although they were praised for their culinary efforts, the pay was often wanting.
When a neighbor or friend needed help, Anna was there to assist with a smile. When she passed away, not a bad word could be said about her character or her devotion and love for her husband and her 3 children, of whom I am gratefully one” - AGW, 2008.
