Ellwood geneology. Catherine Bell (Pell) listed. She died either
on Sept. 24, 1825 or Dec. 28, 1835, age 77 years. Neither of these
dates agree with the account of her birth, which states that:
Mrs. Bell (or Pell), the mother of the wife of Richard Ellwood was
wounded during the French and Indian War of 1851. She was tomahawked,
scalped, had her nose cut off and a severe wound made in her right
thigh and was left for dead. The rest of her family was killed. She
regained consciousness during the night and crawled into Fort Herkimer
where her wounds were dressed and she recovered. Three months later,
(hence about 1751 or 1752) her daughter Catherine, was born. Mrs. Bell
(or Pell) lived for 32 years after this experience, marrying a second
time to a Mr. Nellis.
