John’s birth name was Jean Poirer. After his father died (Edouard Poirer), his mother married Moses Ross (1881, Burlington). The two younger children of Emma (John and his sister Georgiana, changed their last name to Ross; the older sister (Agnes) retained the Poirer name. 211
