After the death of his father, his mother married a second time to Valentine Jagla. John adopted the Jagla name.
John primarily used the name of Jagla up until 1908, at which time, he switched over to Yagley.
John Yagley was struck and killed by an automobile; The driver, a doctor, faced homicide charges in the incident.
